MOLMEDREX is a 7th Framework EU Project at the University of Debrecen with the aim of RCMM being a regional centre of excellence in molecular medicine. RCMM’s most important aims are improving human potential, upgrading the research equipment in this area, helping with mobility of researchers and dissemination of the results.

The Research Centre for Molecular Medicine of the University of Debrecen has already been a recognized centre of excellence of the European Union in molecular medicine including basic and clinical research. One of the distinguishing features is the high level of integration of the basic research units, core facilities and clinical departments. The centre represents the highest concentration of biomedical research in the Eastern part of Hungary, but in spite of considerable progress made, the competitiveness and the human potential of the institute can still be improved. Another point is to work more effectively for the benefit of both the local and regional communities, and be better connected to them.

To achieve its aims, the project is covering a set of measures. One of these is twinning and partnership with institutions in old Member States, including two-way mobility and strengthening research cooperation. Experienced researchers are going to be recruited. Furthermore, a set of conferences, workshops and practical courses will be organized to contribute to the mobilization of human resources, as well as facilitate exchanges with other institutions with similar scientific interest. Beside these, the infrastructure of the centre is going to be upgraded. The project will also include dedicated dissemination activities related to the scientific information and research results of RCMM. It is also planned to engage the public, including patient groups, and to facilitate the presence in the local and national media.

As a result RCMM will become a more potent and prepared research centre in the Eastern part of Hungary with an improved human and infrastructural capacity to tackle key issues in molecular medicine for the benefit of the population of the region.
